About Us
Beatbox History
Beatboxing’s roots lie in the early days of hip-hop culture, where musicians in New York, particularly those in the inner city, started mimicking the sounds of drum machines (called “beatboxes” at the time) with their voices.
The high cost of drum machines and other musical equipment led to the development of beatboxing as a creative solution, allowing artists to create beats using only their mouths, lips, tongues, and voices.
Over time, beatboxers developed a wide array of techniques, including click rolls, tooth chirps, drag whistles, hollow clops, and inward hand claps.
Initially, beatboxing was used as a way to accompany MCs and rappers, but it quickly evolved into a standalone art form, with beatboxers becoming the main event in some cases.
Today, beatboxing continues to evolve, with artists pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with vocal percussion, and it has even become a competitive art form with championships and battles.
